Baby Favorites - hospital & those first few weeks

Not going to bore you with my thought on the ins and outs of my labor and delivery and first few weeks of being a new mom - this time at least! So here’s my no b.s. list of everything I thought was helpful in the hospital and in the first few weeks for both baby and I with some direct shoppable links!

Feel free to add a comment and add anything you liked that I missed.

Hospital:

  • small speaker

  • Your own delivery gown

  • Socks

  • Slippers

  • Stroller fan to clip on your bedside (also lights up which will become good entertainment for baby)

  • Extra pillow & blanket for you and your SO

  • Chapstick

  • Long phone charger

  • Portable sound machine (you’ll use this a lot on the car seat with baby a lot too)

  • Two pairs of nursing friendly pjs https://amzn.to/3QRyvK6

  • Robe or zip up sweatshirt or sweater

  • Nursing/pumping bra

  • Nipple cream

  • Toiletries

  • Snacks (string cheese / apple / power bar / chips / whatever! & hydration (Gatorade / spindrift etc) they have mini fridges

  • Outfit to leave hospital for you

  • Two newborn outfits

  • One 0-3mo outfit (in case bb is big!)

  • Swaddle blanket

Baby:

  • Zip& Velcro swaddle https://amzn.to/44imUGS at least 2

  • Newborn diapers, yes those tiny things!

  • Wipes

  • Aquaphor

  • Infant thermometer

  • Infant Tylenol

  • Nail clipper

  • Gas drops https://amzn.to/3QKRC8B

  • Paicifier

  • Pjs, zipper, feet up. Lots! You don’t want to be doing laundry all the time and they don’t need real clothes right now.. it’s a pain. Keep it easy in pjs

  • Burp cloths https://amzn.to/3P22s8Q our fav

  • Swaddles

  • Baby wrap https://amzn.to/45C02mO

  • Swing or bouncer

  • Dock a tot

  • Diaper genie / special diaper trash can

  • Mini diaper garbage bags for out and about https://amzn.to/3E3zvTK eventually a reusable wet bag is good but the first few months blow outs happen so often, just have these on hand. I’m still using weekly 🤣

Mama:

  • diapers/ liners (depends on your personal preference / recovery)

  • Peri bottle https://amzn.to/3P2yUYQ

  • Witch hazel pads https://amzn.to/3qAPwgP this is what they give you at the hospital, I used a lot! Put them in my liner every single time I went to the bathroom. Had great recovery

  • Numbing spray https://amzn.to/3QK1P52

  • Nipple shields https://amzn.to/45vN2PJ once you’ve established a latch. Put this over your nipples and baby eats through it. Was a life saver for me when they got sore / scabby

  • Nipple cream, put on after every feed https://amzn.to/3QL3jvR

  • Hakka or something for letdown. Not all women have this but sometimes when feeding you other boob starts leaking so you want to catch it! https://amzn.to/47M3ZaB

  • Ice face roller https://amzn.to/3QL3jvR I loved this for those tired mornings.. helped wake me up feel a little revived

  • Compression socks https://amzn.to/3qL4bWK my ankles were so crazy swollen and this was the only thing that helped

  • Healing bath salts https://amzn.to/3P0uYYE

  • Comfy loose clothing. I loved pj pants and a button up https://amzn.to/3QRyvK6 this was great for hospital and breast feeding in general

  • Breastfeeding friendly pj dress https://amzn.to/3E3ofXC

  • Snacks at feeding station for middle of night, you’ll be so hungry! I loved these https://amzn.to/3YNXmk4

  • Chapstick at feeding station

  • Breast ice/heat packs https://amzn.to/3QOB27M you’ll be sore

  • Supposed to help with milk supply https://amzn.to/3KMGYdz

  • Extra pump/bottle supplies, you don’t want to be doing dishes constantly. One trick I heard with pumping is keeping the bottles/flanges in the fridge for the day for reuse. Too cold to grow bacteria. I did this with no issues but of course check cdc guidelines, talk to your pediatrician and make your own decision

*I can earn small commission on some of the shoppable links so if I do thanks for supporting my little family in this way!
